Where America’s Gear Begins

GIE+ExpoThinking of getting yourself a new mower, snowblower, generator or handheld power tool? You’ve got all winter to look up brands and models—and pore over all the user reviews you can find. But if you want a hint now of the gear you’ll be seeing next spring, take in the news from the Green Industry & Equipment Expo, the industry’s trade show.

GIE+Expo runs from today through Friday at its usual locale, the Kentucky Exposition Center in Louisville. Last year’s show was big, but this year’s event should be bigger still, topping 850 exhibits in the indoor space. That includes a new product showcase, with Briggs & Stratton, Cub Cadet, Honda, Husqvarna, John Deere, Kohler Power and many other companies showing off innovations.

Many other exhibitors, however, will be presenting next year’s line—along with products you can buy right away. On this list are Ariens, Caterpiller, DeWalt, Echo, EGO Power Plus, Greenworks, Stihl, Toro, Worx and many more manufacturers. While much of what displays at GIE+Expo is intended for the commercial market, you’ll find new products from nearly every outdoor-gear company that serves the homeowner.

Attendees at GIE+Expo get to do more than look. An outdoor demo area, 20 acres’ worth, lets the willing ride lawn tractors and ZTRs, spray pressure washers and run chainsaws through their paces—and whatever else is handy. And that’s just the residential stuff. Make it to this show, and you can also try your hand at earth-moving equipment in what’s probably Kentucky’s largest sandbox.
